Spin-offs from Research and Innovation
Although the focus of AIGRC is fundamental research in gravity waves and the attendant increase in our knowledge of the basic structure of the universe, this research also generates significant spin-offs which are suitable for commercialization and technology transfer to industry.
The technology previously developed through gravity wave research at UWA has led to the creation of commercial technologies and the transfer of technology to industry in the following areas:
- The Superconducting Gravity Gradiometer
The technology being developed by AIGRC has or can be expected to lead to the creation of commercial technologies and the transfer of technology to industry in the following areas:
- Ultra Low Energy Air-conditioning
These are just a few of the potential commercial benefits and opportunities created by gravitational wave research. Some others include computer techniques, data processing, digital control systems and seismology. The development of quantum techniques to surpass fundamental limits in opto-mechanical devices is opening a new field of quantum interferometry for exploitation by both fundamental science and technology.
